Lanao Ladies Take Part in Maswarah o mga Bae

Three hundred women from the 40 municipalities and city of Lanao del Sur converged together on October 26-27, 2019 at Mindanao State University, Marawi City for the two-day Maswarah o mga Bae and Dialogue with Leaders (LANAO). This is an initiative under the Women Empowerment and Leadership in Development (WELD) Project of Al-Mujadilah Development Foundation (AMDF) in partnership with Oxfam, Pilipina, Bangsamoro in Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), EveryWoman, National Commission of Muslim Filipino (NCMF) Lanao, and Mindanao State University-Main Campus represented by the College of Public Affairs (CPA) and Institute of Local Governance (ILG).
The participants were academicians, combatants, members of civil society’s organizations and people’s organizations, elected officials, farmers, fisherfolks, government workers, internally displaced persons (IDPs), out of school youths, orphans, persons with disabilities (PWDs), senior citizens, shariah counselors, students, traders, traditional leaders, widows, and young professionals.
The event aims to advance the participation and equal rights of women in the policy-making and programming of BARMM governance particularly in the areas of health, education, livelihood, protection, peace building, politics, and sustainable environment and resources.
Director of MSU-ILG, Prof. Norkaya S. Mohamad emphasized on her welcome address the importance of women in nation building through solidarity in shared agenda of social change.
Executive Director of AMDF, Zahria PM Mapandi discussed the Rationale and Overview of WELD Peace in the Bangsamoro Project and Women Sectoral Agenda. She also stressed that the project focuses on
The discussions centered on “Gender provisions in the Bangsamoro Organic Law” presented by Noraisah Sani, Program Coordinator of AMDF and on “Regional Women’s Agenda in the BARMM” discussed by Prof. Raima Dimaampao, BOT Chairperson of AMDF and a faculty member in MSU-Department of Community Development.
Workshops on policy-making and programming were facilitated by Sittie Nur Dayhanna S. Mohamad, program coordinator and CS Project Officer of AMDF. Prof. Sorhaila Latip-Yusop, Chairperson of MSU-Communication and Media Studies Department, presented the outputs of the participants in the plenary session.
The Institute of Local Governance continues to expand capacity to the local governments on the wide variety of relevant themes through service delivery, local economic development, leadership, and improved citizen participation.
